Wednesday February 18th - Distinguished Professor Brenda Murphy - rescheduled for March 25th

Brenda Murphy, Distinguished Professor of English at the University of Connecticut, will be discussing Arthur Miller’s Pulitzer Prize winning play, Death of a Salesman, a classic of American theater.

Friday February 20th - Tom Shachtman: Celebrating the Year of Science

Acclaimed author Tom Shachtman discusses his books with Davyne Verstandig at UConn Torrington. Tom Shachtman has written thirty books, and many television documentaries. He will discuss Absolute Zero and the Conquest of Cold and Terrors and Marvels: How Science and Technology Changed the Character and Outcome of World War II as part of the UConn celebration of 2009 as the Year of Science.

Wednesday March 4th - Francine du Plessix Gray, Them

Author Francine du Plessix Gray discusses her National Book Critics’Award-winning memoir "Them" with Davyne Verstandig as part of the Litchfield County Writers Project spring 2009 class. A book sale and book signing follow the discussion.

Friday April 3rd - Cady McClain

Emmy award winning actress, poet and musician Cady McClain will be reading some of her work and discussing her career with Davyne Verstandig at the UConn Torrington campus. The evening is part of the Litchfield County Writers Project’s celebration of Poetry Month. A book sale and book signing follow the discussion.

Wednesday April 8th - Creative Sustenance, Davyne Verstandig

Enjoy some nourishment for the soul by hearing Davyne Verstandig read her poetry and prose and discuss her remarkable life with author Robert Crooke and poet and artist Robley Whitson. The event is the Torrington campus’ finale of the University of Connecticut’s annual Creative Sustenance program, which raises awareness about the hungry and homeless in our region and collects donations of food and money to support helping organizations. The suggested minimum donation for this event is $5.00.

Wednesday April 15th - Frank McCourt, Angela’s Ashes THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Pulitzer-prize winning author Frank McCourt will appear at the Torrington UConn campus to discuss his Pulitzer Prize winning memoir, Angela’s Ashes, with Davyne Verstandig. The evening is part of the Litchfield County Writers Project spring class, “Literary Prize Winners of Litchfield County”. A book sale and book signing follow the discussion.

Friday April 17th - Susan Kinsolving and Jack Gilpin

Acclaimed poet Susan Kinsolving and actor Jack Gilpin will be reading selected work of Tennessee Williams at the Torrington UConn campus. The evening is part of the Litchfield County Writers Project celebration of Poetry Month.  A book sale and book signing follow the discussion.

Wednesday April 29th - Charles Van Doren discusses Mark Van Doren and Carl Van Doren

Charles Van Doren will be discussing Pulitzer Prize winners, his father, Mark Van Doren and his uncle, Carl Van Doren with Davyne Verstandig. The evening is part of the Litchfield County Writers Project spring class, “Literary Prize Winners of Litchfield County”.

Friday May 1st - Creative Conversations – Ann Leary, Marie Bostwick, Lauren Lipton

Three highly popular Litchfield County authors, Ann Leary, Marie Bostwick and Lauren Lipton, will be in discussion with Davyne Verstandig in the first annual Creative Conversations event. The annual event will be sponsored by the Litchfield County Writers Project.
